The African Canadian Resource Network Inc. (ACRN) is a non-profit organization founded in 2014. Our mission is to support the capacity development of Canadians of African descent in Saskatchewan in strategic areas such as public and business leadership. We also work to enhance social and cultural connections within and outside our community, with a view to facilitating the successful integration of our members into our province.

In line with this goal, ACRN is undertaking a community initiative to identify, communicate and address the human, social and economic cost at the intersection of racism, sexism and religious discrimination.

ACRN is currently accepting applications for a Program Consultant to develop a detailed plan that aligns with the outcomes of this initiative.

What our ideal candidate will do:

In collaboration with the Executive Director and other stakeholders, the Program Consultant shall develop a detailed plan. This work includes:

  • Reviewing the existing high-level program framework and all existing requirements and documentation;
  • Completing a detailed stakeholder analysis, obtaining approval of program objectives and documenting them;
  • Collecting additional requirements and prioritizing all requirements in line with program objectives;
  • Defining the program scope (what success looks like, what is included in the program, what is excluded from the program and the final deliverables);
  • Developing a detailed schedule with defined roles and responsibilities for all stakeholders;
  • Developing a detailed budget and cash flow requirements in alignment with the schedule;
  • Developing other related plans (human resources, communications, risk management, stakeholder management, etc.) and processes that enable the sound and professional execution of the detailed program plan;
  • Supporting the successful transition from planning phase to execution, including assisting the Executive Director with the recruitment of required Program Staff; and
  • Other duties as assigned under an executed contract with ACRN.

What we want in our ideal candidate:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or a combination of formal schooling, self-education, prior experience and on-the-job training, preferably in Program/Project/Portfolio Management, Business, or a Social Science. Other backgrounds would be considered depending on the combination of education and prior work experience. Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) will be considered as an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex programs or projects in a professional environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in research and evaluation methods.
  • Experience working with non-profit or community-based organizations.
  • Experience working within a diverse organization and with a diverse Board.
  • Good facilitation and event planning skills.
  • Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills, with outstanding attention to details.
  • An independent, energetic, analytical, and responsible self-starter driven to produce quality outcomes.
  • Must possess a clean and valid driver’s licence and be able to travel within Saskatchewan and to other provinces, as needed.
  • Be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Possess strong organizational skills and a commitment to professionalism, including the ability to manage and meet critical timelines.
  • Other assets: Experience in managing federal programs; a working knowledge of spoken and written French; knowledge of topics such as cultural diversity, intercultural communications, anti-racism and equity.
